Preparing and sharing meals together creates bonds between parents and children, as well as special memories! In addition to the two playrooms at The CALL, we encourage families to use the kitchen to cook and bake together. Kate, with the Division of Children and Family Services, brings a family to The CALL every week to work on life skills and relationships.
"Food has been our love language since we have a nice kitchen to cook in. Mom is learning to cook all kinds of new things from me, and the boys (in elementary and junior high school) get more and more creative with their requests each week! Favorites so far: fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, REAL (not box) macaroni and cheese, pan fried potatoes, and breakfast for lunch. Today was chicken-bacon-ranch chicken salad day, and we always have to bake some kind of cake or cookies together. The kids (who didn’t have a great bond with their mom due to growing up mostly with their grandmother) have also found a way to connect with their mom, and they credit “doing regular stuff like at home” as the reason. No kid wants to be stuck in a DHS office or McDonald’s for 4 hours, and this house has provided some real normalcy where we can make real memories together!"
Thank you for supporting The CALL and helping families to make (and bake!) real memories together!
