The CALL in Pope & Yell Counties launched in September of 2013, the result of a God-driven desire in the hearts of several people, many of whom didn’t know each other at the time. But His timing is perfect and when He is ready to bring a task to fruition, things come together with full force.

Like every county in Arkansas, there is an urgent need for foster and adoptive homes here in Pope & Yell Counties. The number of children in foster care in our county greatly exceeds the number of foster homes we have available to care for them. As of October 2022, there are approximately 134 chilldren and youth in foster care with only 42 foster homes available to care for these children. Due to the lack of available homes, the remaining children are placed out of the county or into group homes or shelters when they come into care.

This means changing schools, longer drive times to visitations, and leaving friends and familiar places behind. An overall sense of displacement is added to their already turned upside-down world. These children need a loving home in a community that is familiar to them.

God has given the Church an amazing approach to caring for local children in foster care and those available for adoption. If just one family from each church in Pope & Yell Counties became a foster family, we would have an abundant supply of open homes for our local kids.

Not everyone is called to be a foster or adoptive parent but there are so many more ways our congregations can be actively involved in caring for the hurting children of our community.
