Crawford & Sebastian About Us

Foster care is life changing. In Crawford & Sebastian Counties we are at crisis level for children entering the foster care system. Hundreds of children are waiting for that one moment, that one family to change their lives. Not everyone is called to foster or adopt however, God commands every one of us to care. At the time of this post, there are over 700 children in care and less than 200 homes to care for them. That means many of our children are being moved across the state to different counties. This also puts more of them in group homes and emergency shelters. While these facilities are valuable they can not compare to being part of a family and living in a more home-like environment.

The CALL was based off of James 1:27, which says, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.” Whether through opening your home to adoption or foster care or volunteering your time or resources, you can show a child God’s love that was poured out for all of us. Not only are given a great opportunity and blessing to care for our children in foster care. You may also have an opportunity to witness to the biological families, who often are victims of traumatic childhoods, and end the cycle of brokenness that is plaguing our society. Generational chains can be broken when we come together as the Body of Christ to fulfill His mission here on Earth.

There is no manual for how to care for a child in foster care, a child with a traumatic past, a child of abuse. Our God doesn’t call those that are equipped, yet he equips those who answer The Call. “Now may the God of peace…may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him.” Hebrews 13:20-21
