Mobilizing the Church in Arkansas to love foster children with the extravagant love of Christ.

Hope and a future

With over 5,000 children in foster care and less than 2,000 foster homes, Arkansas is in a crisis. Since 2014, the number of children in foster care has steadily increased. The State of Arkansas is scratching its head, trying to figure out what to do about the problem.

James 1:27 states, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.”

Since 2007, The CALL has gone into churches to challenge people to do one of two things: Foster or support those who are able to foster. Little by little, The CALL breaks down the barriers that have kept people from fostering for so long. Over the past 10 years, The CALL has answered the hard questions for numerous families. Once those questions were answered, many families were ready to start the foster care/adoption process.

The Bible tells us the church is the answer, so that is where The CALL starts. We go into churches and host recruitments. We share our hearts and the need for foster families and challenge people to support foster families. Then, it is up to the churches. We host an informational meeting for interested couples to hear more about becoming a foster or adoption family.

Potential families have to complete a massive amount of paperwork, 30 hours of training, CPR, and more in order to open up as a foster or adoption home. Without The CALL, these families would be left to navigate the process by themselves. Many families who do this on their own quit or take longer to open because of the lack of support. The CALL guides families through this process, answering any questions and helping iron out wrinkles.

Once a foster family is open, The CALL becomes a part of their village. The CALL Mall helps families with clothes, baby furniture, diapers, and other necessities at no cost. The CALL stays in touch with these families to ensure they have what they need physically, emotionally, and spiritually to be great foster parents.

In the past 10 years, The CALL has helped open over 1,161 foster homes and 369 adoption homes. Over 501 children have been adopted by families supported by The CALL.

When you become a foster parent or volunteer with The CALL or donate to The CALL, you are making a difference locally. You can see the fruits of your labor because the foster children you pour your life into will grow up to be contributing members of your community.
There is a great need for foster families, but we understand that not every is called or able to foster. Even if you cannot foster, there’s still something you can do. If it takes a village to raise a family, it takes an entire church to support a foster family. The CALL needs people willing to donate their time, talent, and resources to help us eliminate the crisis in Arkansas. Do you have an extra hour a week? Can you help out a few hours a month or maybe more? If so, check out the volunteer page to find out where you can get plugged in. The CALL has a place for you.

Can’t foster or volunteer? Donate. The CALL is a non-profit organization and we cannot do anything to support these families without the financial support of generous individuals and churches.

We are not all meant to do the same thing, but we are all supposed to do something.

Boone County sent kids Back to School in Style!

Room full of clothes, toys and other items for children in foster care

God is doing great things with The CALL in Boone County! We’ve had a successful summer and we are looking forward to The Fall!thumbnail_img_0606 We have opened several new foster homes! We are currently supporting 21 foster homes through The CALL. We also minster to therapeutic foster homes, provisional homes, some biological families that have worked hard to get their children back home, and to a few homes in neighboring counties where The CALL hasn’t launched yet, so we actually serve about 40 families through our CALL Mall.

We had an extremely successful Back 2 School Bash for all of the kids where we supplied backpacks, school supplies, and brand new shoes to EVERY child in the foster family when they started back to school thanks to the generosity of our community. The families were all able to come in and do some back to school shopping while they picked up their supplies. We saw 98 kids come through!

The CALL 10K challenge logoEarlier this summer we were offered a $10K Challenge to raise $10,000 in just a few short months and a generous donor would match that amount if we could raise it. Again, our amazing community stepped up and we were not only able to raise that amount, but we blew past it in a major way! God proves that He is so much bigger than we can dream or imagine! He always provides for his children! Thanks to that generous donation, we are now able to meet the needs of over 100 children that are currently in foster are in Boone County! We are able to continue our efforts to recruit and train more families.

We are so thankful for our supporters and friends in Boone County that step up and answer The CALL.

Starting off with a bang…

It seems God wants The CALL in Boone County to succeed even more than we do! After weather delays, we were finally able to Launch on January 12th! We hit the ground running with our very first Informational meeting happening the next night! We had over 30 in attendance and 3 families completed the first step with background checks and fingerprint packets. We were thrilled that after being obedient to God’s calling, we had recruited 3 families.

To our surprise, the very next day, we began getting calls and emails asking about our next meeting! We received so many, in fact, that we felt the urgency to hold another Info meeting before January was over. On January 28th, just two weeks later, we held our second Info meeting. We were thrilled to collect another 11 packets from families desperate to answer the call they were sensing to become foster or adoptive families!! We were in awe of what could only be God moving on the hearts of His people. It seems the Church needed only to hear of the need to know that God wanted them to do something. We do not underestimate the role that God himself plays in our endeavor to care for the children in crisis.

In March we finished training our first 6 families in the state’s 30 hour PRIDE training. We are helping them all to get CPR/First Aid trained. Soon they will have home studies done which is the final step to becoming an open home. We are encouraged that our goal of 10 foster and 2 adoptive families may well be complete with our first 2 Info meetings in January!! But we won’t stop there. We will not let up until we have met our overall goal of 40 new foster homes in Boone County and 10 adoptive homes. We will continue to recruit even if we reach it knowing that our goal is not only about numbers but an abundant supply of open homes.

Our hearts tell us we can’t have children waiting for a home, but we need to have families waiting for children. With God all things are possible!
